Marcel F. Caron – Devoted husband and father
Marcel F. Caron, age 85, passed away peacefully, in his home on Sunday, February 5th, surrounded by family. Marcel was the husband of his beloved wife Rita. Marcel was born September 25, 1931, in Coaticook, in the province of Quebec, Canada, to the late Joseph and Alberta Caron, and came to the United States as an infant.
In addition to his wife Rita, of 52 years, Marcel is survived by his five children: Michael J. Caron and his wife Barbara of Florence Kentucky, David J. Caron and his wife Gina, their 2 children Casper and Joleen of Colebrook, Connecticut, Anne M. Krings and her husband Kilian, of Prospect, Connecticut, Linda P. Caron of Waterbury, Connecticut, and Peter J. Caron and his significant other Linda B. Dwy of Prospect, Connecticut. Marcel and his wife Rita cared for David Zayatz, a gentleman with developmental disabilities for 22 years who was considered a member of the family.
Marcel attended school in Waterbury, Connecticut. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Marcel earned the Purple Heart during his years of service and was proud for having served his country.
Marcel worked making sail boats for many years, at AMF Alcort in Waterbury and years later, he was employed at Carpin Manufacturing. Marcel and wife Rita were lifelong members of St. Anne’s Church in Waterbury.
Marcel loved being outdoors. He had a green thumb and could make a house plant thrive from just a simple sprig with just a few roots. Marcel also enjoyed trips to the casino, or getting scratch off tickets, always hoping he’d hit it big. But Marcel DID hit it big…as he married the love of his life and raised a beautiful family that he was devoted to. Marcel was a family man and with family he was always happiest. Marcel will be greatly missed by his family and his dog Twinkie, his faithful companion till the very end. Many will miss his great sense of humor and lots will say he didn’t have a mean bone in his body, always engaging with strangers, striking up conversation with that characteristic grin and glean in his eye.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, February 8 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Road, Wolcott. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 11 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet, Watertown with full Military Honors.
Memorial Contributions in Marcel’s name can be made to the Connecticut Humane Society or St. Vincent’s DePaul in Waterbury CT.
